My History

About Me

Born and raised in Egremont, West Cumbria.  Live in Egremont until 4 years ago the bought a house in Workington moved in with my fiancee and got married, been married for nearly 4 years now.

About the Website

Well as a confirmed snapper from a very early age using an old twin lens camera, through instamatic and 110 film cameras to a couple of 35mm SLR cameras, a Praktica and Pentax.  I fell out with photography for a while as it cost so much to get everything developed, then digital happened and after a foray with a 1Mp camera I gradually built up a decent array of photographic equipment.  I have developed an attachment to Fuji over the years and currently still own an S8000 and an S2 pro, due to their involvement with Fuji I tried a Nikon D40 and then decided to sell it, (I'm not rich and the SLRs have been bought off Ebay for little money).  So this site is mainly for all the photos that I've taken at various music festivals around Cumbria.

Why?

Well I enjoy taking photos, now I don't have to pay for developing especially, and my wife is the Head of Content for the Times & Star so she covers a lot of the festivals for the paper and website.  I got involved because I had the kit (at the start not a lot of it) can point a camera in the right direction and had the technical know how to turn the photos around quickly to get them on the web very very quickly (we managed hourly updates at Bfest 2008 blog, photos and video).  I also can manage to use Adobe Premiere to a reasonable degree which allows video output for the website as well.  Thats how it started, all because I wanted to spend more time with my wife.  Since then (only last August) I have managed to acquire some proper kit including the SLR and some mini DV camcorders, which were then donated to the Times & Star after buying an SD card camcorder, we have managed to improve the quality a lot from the first attempts. If you have been to Lakes Rock, Cockrock, Maryport Blues or any festival in Cumbria over the last couple of years you've probably seen us wandering about for the weekend (I usually wear a black hat and to be fair as much black as possible, my wife can be seen in Doc Martins and a large chunky brown cardigan).
The biggest reason for it is that it is fun, we have met so many people who we now see at every festival and had such good feedback from people, so if you are one of them "Hello" and thanks.

Where/what Next ?

Well we are into 2010, the year has kicked off with some great Battles of the Bands and Hensingham Rocks which was a really good festival that, I think, everyone hopes will be back next year.  Lakes Rok next followed by the mighty Cockrock soon after.  I have recently been taking a few pointers from an award winning landscape photographer who has made a few pointers on my technique and post processing, its really made a difference and I hope you will see the improvements on here soon.
